An iron metal exposed to air forms rust. In this process, iron reacts with oxygen to produce iron(III) oxide(Fe2O3), A metal sample that contains 15.0g of iron was exposed to 1.75 moles of oxygen gas. Answer the following:
a. Write the balanced chemical equation for the formation of rust.
b. Which of the starting materials is the limiting reactant? Which is the excess reactant? Support your answers.
c. How much of the excess reactant (in moles) is left after the reaction?
d. Calculate the mass of Fe2O3 formed.
