Activity 2
In this activity, you will distinguish between acidic and basic mixtures based on
the color reactions to an indicator. USE your prepared indicator and the listed
materials.
Procedure:
1. Place 1 teaspoon of each sample in each well of the egg tray or plastic cup.
2. Add ½ teaspoon of the plant indicator to the first sample. If the sample is
solid, wet a pinch of the solid with about ½ teaspoon of distilled water.
3. Note the color produced. Record your observations in the table of observation.
Direction: Complete the table by identifying the nature of sample using the
color scheme given:
Strongly acidic: red to pale red
Weakly acidic: blue
Weakly basic: green
Strongly basic: yellow
