Activity 2: FACTOR ME! Directions: Identify the prime factors of the following polynomials. Number 1 is done for you. Polynomial Prime Factors 1. 18y 2. 25x 3. 100y2 4. 64a3b2 5. 343xy3
To factor a monomial, binomial and trinomial are to rewrite the equation into the product of two binomials. It means that we will rewrite the trinomial in the form (a + b) (a + c). It is important as fundamental skills in algebra in solving complex problems. You can factor out the polynomials using Greatest Common Factor
Greatest Common Factor
Greatest common Factor (GCF) of a set of numbers or varaibles that is the largest number possible factor of all those numbers.
Identify all the prime factors of each monomial. You can use continuous division

Key Points on Factoring
For Monomial
First, list down all the posible common factor of teach monomial.
The greatest common factor is also the common monomial factor of set of monomial.
Polynomials
First, think a factor for both first and last term.
If all the sign of each terms are positive, the sign must be all positive for both binomial factor. For example, (x²+5x+6) = (x+2)(x+3).
If the sign of first and last term of the trinomials are positive, the sign of the two binomial factor are both negative. For example, (x²-5x+6) = (x-2)(x-3).
Apply the reveres FOIL method, in factoring for quadratic trinomials.
Always check first the GCF of the first terms and last terms. This is the first step in factoring.
Factors are always in written in lowest term.
Don't forget to double check the factor.
