Well 2020, that was a year not to be forgotten quickly, but for me, it has furthered my belief that we have much to look forward to and that the transportation sectors future, which I hold dear to my heart, is in very safe hands.
Over the years our industry has witnessed many challenges, however no matter what, we have adapted as required and embraced our changing environment with open arms, however far more importantly with ‘open minds’.
Our industry is intuitively driven by safety and the need to have in place an approach of continuous improvement and at the heart of this have been numerous enhancements in technology. The ever improving systems and technologies, for me are not the reason why we succeed, it’s our people.
An industry once perceived to be predominantly male oriented has changed, it is rightly now more diverse and much the richer for being so. As each year passes I find myself surrounded by the most amazing professionals, male, female, old and young. They inspire and drive me to want to share experiences of the past and at the same time fill me with a thirst to continually want to learn more.
Like many I have had to adapt to a completely different way of working through 2020, challenging as it was, my experience has been a positive one, the age of working close (albeit virtually) is still alive and well. The professionalism, enthusiasm and support of those around me I’ve witnessed I can’t begin to explain or thank enough (if you’re reading, trust me you are amazing). I am certain however that my experience has manifested itself all-over our amazing industry (suppliers, contractors, consultancies and client bases alike) and with that we have every right to feel confident for whatever the future may bring.
