A scarecrow is made out of hay and looks like a man. They usually wear clothes and hats. Sometimes, a scarecrow will have a pumpkin as its head. Farmers, or people who grow plants, often place scarecrows in fields, where food is grown. The scarecrows are used to frighten crows. Crows are black birds that come and eat farmers' crops. Crows think that the scarecrow is a human and stay away from the field. ​
