In a reasonable excuse, or a serious explanation why I shouldn't drink alcohol.

Explanation:

First off, it is a no-brainer that drinking alcohol is not good for your health. So it is a natural decision that you should decline your friend. And the real question here is; HOW? How do you get out of this situation from your friend in a way that doesn't hurt them.

There are 2 categories of methods. The temporary, and the SERIOUS methods:

First is the Temporary: as the name suggests, it is only a temporary solution to your problem, and can't be used repeatedly or else you'll be very suspicious.

Creating reasonable excuses, you have to prepare a few of these beforehand so that it will be more realistic because you have a lot more time to think of one. By making the perfect excuse, you can avoid it slimly. It is also good when there is a third party helping you stage your excuse.

Second is the SERIOUS: For this one, I am not entirely sure. But for me, this is perhaps the most realistic way of solving the problem and it requires lots of energy and guts to perform. And it is also likely that they will be mad at you.

Explaining why you can't drink alcohol, and including your friend: Yes, including your friend, this requires LOTS of research so that your explanation will be flawless and valid. You also should explain to your friend why they shouldn't drink alcohol since this can also impact their life big time and can produce a good outcome (maybe)
And the reason why you also need lots of guts to perform this method is that most probably you will have to argue with your friend since people don't change that easily, and he might also try to change your mind, but you mustn't cave in. And in worst scenarios, he might stop being friends anymore. But this is natural, in life people come and people go. But the ones that stay in your life are the ones that are most suitable for you, and most probably have no interest in drinking either.
So the chances of you not being friends with them anymore with this method is 50:50.

And if you really, REALLY, don't want to lose your friend. Then you should only explain why you shouldn't drink alcohol. That's it. Because experience is the best teacher (you should monitor them from time to time so that nothing bad happens)
