A Activity
Procedure:
1. Prepare the following materials
Candle and matches
bits of paper
Guitar
plastic comb
2. Perform the different procedures below then answer the questions that
follow.
A. Light the candle using a matchstick. Observe what is found at the
end of the matchstick
B. Pluck the guitar for 2-3 minutes
C. Make a pinwheel. Blow some air in the pinwheel. What happens
when the wind comes in contact with the pinwheel?
D. Vigorously comb your classmate's hair. (Be sure that the hoir is dry
and clean). Place this comb near the dry bits of paper. Describe
what happens.
Questions:
1. What form of energy is found at the end of the motchstick? How does
energy transformation occur in dlighted condle?
2. What form of energy is produced by the guitar? How is the form of
energy produced?
3. What form of energy is produced by the pinwheel when you blow
some air in it?
4. What form of energy is produced when comb is placed near the dry
bits of paper? Why is this possible?
5. What conclusions can be made after performing this activity?
Answers & Comments
Answer:
1. matchstick has a lot of chemical energy stored in it. When the match is struck, it burns and the chemical energy in it produces heat energy and light energy.
2. guitar uses electrical energy. The guitar produces sound energy when the strings are plucked.
3. Face the front of your pinwheel and blow directly at it. Imagine that the pinwheel is a wind turbine and when it spins this direction it is turning the energy of the wind into electrical energy.
4. This is because the neutrality of polarity can be changed by electric field in this case. When you create - charge in the comb and you expose the pieces of paper to the electric field created by the charge, you will polarise them so that the part closer to the comb will be + and the other will be.
5. The conclusion allows you to have the final say on the issues you have raised in your paper, to synthesize your thoughts, to demonstrate the importance of your ideas, and to propel your reader to a new view of the subject. It is also your opportunity to make a good final impression and to end on a positive note.
