A complete revolution of the Earth around the Sun lasts for 365 and 1/4 days.

The term revolution, in astronomy, refers to the orbit of a planetary object around its star. Rotation, on the other hand, refers to the orbit of a satellite around its planet. On Earth, it takes around 365 and ¼ days for our planet to complete its revolution around the Sun.

Notice the fraction at the end of 365? That’s the reason why every four years, people on earth experience what is referred to as a leap year. A leap year has 366 days on it, and when looking at the calendar, one would notice the date February 29 appearing.

All planets in the Solar System revolve around the sun, but the number of days it takes for them to complete a revolution varies. Mercury can revolve around the sun for only 88 days, while Pluto, which is on the far end of the Solar System, requires 248 earth years to complete a revolution.
