A homogeneous mixture has the same uniform appearance and composition throughout. Many homogeneous mixtures are commonly referred to as solutions. A heterogeneous mixture consists of visibly different substances or phases. The three phases or states of matter are gas, liquid, and solid.
Melting Point
The melting point of a pure substance is always higher and has a smaller range than the melting point of an impure substance or, more generally, of mixtures. The higher the quantity of other components, the lower the melting point and the broader will be the melting point range, often referred to as the "pasty range".
Boiling Point
And as always, the boiling point is the temperature AND pressure at which the vapour pressure of the liquid is equal to the ambient pressure, and bubbles of vapour form directly in the liquid. If a mixture contains SOLUTES, the boiling point of the solution is ELEVATED with respect to that of the pure solvent.
