Because when you are hitting a baseball and even a golf ball, you apply force/energy into your batter and swings it with acceleration as it hits the ball. Some energy is released and tranfered into the ball making it flew away but the some of the exerted force are still in the motion swing of the batter itself thats why theres a follow through.
