Although it is technically illegal, many individuals who expose or "blow the whistle" on a corporation or a government agency's wrongdoing end up losing their jobs, or suffering some other form of retaliation. If whistleblowers are discouraged from coming forward with important truths, then wrongdoing may not be corrected. Not only that, if a whistleblower is fired, an organization can face costly law suits and a great deal of unwanted publicity.
