10. A dish contains a blackish yellow powder. When a magnet is moved over it, black particles (iron) get stuck to the magnet , and only a yellow powder, which is sulphur, is left behind. was your original powder an element, compound or mixture?
The dish which contains the blackish yellow powder, had iron and sulphur ,so when you moved the magnet, the iron only was seperated because the 2 elements had not formed a new type of molecule by chemical change, but whereas if it had been heated up it would become (FeS) IRONSULPHIDE so even if you moved the magnet over it, the iron could not be separeted.
ALSO in a compound a molecule is formed by the combination of 2 elements by the same ratio. The elements can separated in chemical way only.
whereas in a mixture, compounds and elements are mixed and you can separate those as well physicaly
