Even from the first words of the Bible, we learn that God created the heavens and the earth. The stars and sky. Sun and moon. All the animals of the earth are His creation. And as a most prized possession, He created mankind. Male and female. Created in His own image, to have a relationship with Him. Psalm 100:3 says, “Know that the Lord, He is God! It is He who made us,
and we are His.”
- - - - Jesus is our Savior
Yes, God is our Creator. He designed us to live in reflection of His glorious image. But there was a problem. We chose our own way. In our own pride, we decided that we could make a better way to live than the life God designed for us. We elevated ourselves to the place of God in our lives, and rejected Him and His ways. The Bible calls this sin. The good news though, is that God loves us. He sent His Son to this earth to live the perfect life we haven’t, receive the punishment for sin in His death in our place, and resurrect on the third day to proclaim His glorious victory over sin and death. Through faith in Jesus, we belong to Jesus.
We should obey God because Jesus bought us with His blood (Acts 20:28). Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” So according to this verse, Christ is the One living in us. I have died to all my selfish desires, my sin, my own way. I’ve died to “me” and “my way”. Now, I’m to live through faith in Chri belongs to Jesus because He purchased my life. We should obey God because Jesus has saved us through faith in the gospel.
- - - Obedience Brings Joy
Not only does He save us by grace through faith, but He also calls us to live life unto Him. And as much as many have been tricked into thinking the Christian life is supposed to be void of all happiness in this world, God actually intended the Christian life to be the means by which we can experience fullness of joy. Christians are to be the happiest people around! We shouldn’t be the ones with sticks up our butts all the time, but genuinely joyful.
